RICHARD MORRISSEY
Richard Morrissey, director of the River City Chorale, has spent most of his professional career in Yuba City, California
where he was raised. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from CSU, Chico, and has completed graduate level courses at
CSU, Sacramento,
University of Portland and CSU, Humboldt. He has also studied at Occidental
College in Los Angeles under Dr. Howard Swann. He served for three years
as a Commissioned Officer in the United States Navy.
Richard’s musical experience includes serving as conductor and musical
director of the 80 voice Yuba-Sutter Oratorio Society Chorus and the 65 piece Yuba-Sutter Symphony Orchestra for 25 years. He has also been a
Presbyterian Church Choir Director for 20 years. He recently retired from the Yuba City Unified School District after having served there as District
Supervisor Of Music and teacher of Orchestra and Theater Arts for 36 years.
Richard has composed over sixty works for choir and orchestra, ten of which have been published. Prior to being named as director of the River City
Chorale, Richard sang as a member of the bass section in the group for seven years.
